APL 1448 Da milagrosa Imagem de N. Srª dos Envendos, ou Emendos

A little shepherdess finds an image of Our Lady in a thicket of young oak trees. The image asks the girl if she will delouse her. Eventually the image is taken to a church by the priest but it returns to the thicket. A chapel is then built in the area, also with bells. Later they try transfer the image to a new chapel, together with the bells, crossing along a swamp by boat. The boat sinks with the weight, the bells are lost, the image is recovered and taken back to the old chapel near where it had first appeared. It is said that the bells can still be heard tolling under water on St. John’s day (24 June, our Summer solstice).
